The Auteurs Cinema

FAQ

What is The Auteurs?

The Auteurs is where film viewing, culture, and discussion finally meet in a single venue. At its core, The Auteurs is a web site making great films from prominent festivals around the world accessible to anyone through high-definition video streaming. Together with online film viewing, we bring together the most original coverage of festivals, filmmaking, and cinema culture in the form of an online film magazine. Finally, we unite film watching and film criticism with film discussion by allowing users to rate and review films, as well as discuss cinema in our forums.

What kind of films do you show?

We show the best of international cinema. This means a wide-ranging, but carefully selected group of films that fall into any number of categories, from foreign language, art-house, documentary, and independent, to short films, experimental, and animated works.

How do I watch films on The Auteurs?

Simple! Most of the films on our site can be watched for free. Just sign up, login, and they are yours for the watching. For the chance to watch our newest acquisitions and additions to our library first, we do charge a small fee per film.

To become a user, simply register a username with a valid email, and you can immediately watch almost any movie on the site for free! It’s just that easy.

In which countries does your service work?

We’re set up to deliver movies pretty much anywhere in the world. However, we license movies for specific territories, and often not all territories are available for a given movie. Visiting the profile page of any of our films will inform you of which areas the film can be viewed from. Our technology will also automatically check to see if the movie you want to view is available in your territory.

What format are your films shown?

All our films are streamed in high-definition in their original aspect ratio. If a film is in a foreign language, we show it with English subtitles.

Can I watch movies on my TV?

Absolutely! The resolution of our movies are high enough for you to enjoy them on your TV. To watch our films on your TV you will need a PC to TV cable, which is a cord that connects to the computer and displays the image from your monitor on your television. This allows you to watch internet video on a real TV set.

Your billing information is transmitted using a secure Internet connection (SSL), certified by GeoTrust. We’re a friendly bunch, and we want to make you happy, so we’re working hard to make sure you have a safe shopping experience.

Are you going to be adding more movies?

We sure are! We will be acquiring new films all the time, as well as adding to our special sections and creating new, curated programs.

I love film and I’ve got something to say!

There are many ways to get involved with our films. Users can easily favorite or rate a film they’ve viewed, or even write a review of it that will be posted on our site. Even better, visit our forum to discuss with other film lovers your favorite theatrical releases, DVDs, classic films, works from The Auteurs library, whatever!

Is The Auteurs only about showing films?

No way! The Auteurs serves as a one-stop global meeting place for cinema culture. That means we let users watch films and trailers, read articles and news about international film, discuss with us and each other on our forums, and write their own reviews of films, all on our site!
